PHOTOVOLTAIC DESERTEC

Abdelaziz Bennouna believes that the desert power project, DESERTEC Egypt, could develop to an important source of income for North Africa and promote the economic integration of the continent.

Desertec established joint venture & after the launch of the desertec Egypt Industrial Initiative (DII) in July 2009, twelve large companies announced the formation of a joint venture they hope will build a massive solar energy system in North Africa and the Middle East that could satisfy 15 per cent of Europe's electricity demand by 2050.

Desertec Egypt, still on the drawing board, aims to produce solar-generated electricity through a vast network of generating facilities and transmission grids across North Africa and the Middle East. "We recognize and strongly support the Desertec vision as a pivotal part of the transition to a sustainable energy supply in the Middle East and North Africa countries and Europe," van Son said in a statement on Friday.

The DESERTEC Egypt concept, describes the perspectives of a sustainable power supply for all regions of the world with access to the energy potential of deserts. According to the latest newsletter from EM Power Program, Egypt is part of the site identification activity for Concentrating Solar Power and Photovoltaic in Egypt.

Photovoltaic in Egypt generates electricity using the sun’s energy by means of solar panels (or Photovoltaic modules), which convert the solar irradiation into direct current (DC). For PV systems connected to the grid, a DC/AC inverter is used. In this way, the generated DC energy is converted into grid compatible AC electricity in order to sell (or “feed-in”) the production to the national or local grid. In agriculture, the irrigation and pumping systems have significant potentials for energy and water efficiency. In addition, solar Photovoltaic in Egypt is pumping in combination with high efficient drip irrigation systems, increasingly used in remote locations, can be applied much more widely.
