Egypt has a high potential for energy efficiency, very significant Egypt wind energy and abundant solar energy resources. The Government of Egypt is in 2008 defining the policy to tap these resources and safeguard at the same time the affordable energy supply.
Egypt wind energy is the leading in Middle East and Africa 20/4/2009
The new Global Wind 2008 Report of the
Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) confirms
the leading position of Egypt wind energy in the
regions Middle East and Africa, in terms of new
additions as well as installed wind energy
capacity. According to GWEC which received
information by NREA, Egypt added 55 MW to achieve 365 MW at the end of the year 2008.
Global wind energy capacity grew by 27,000
MW to reach over 120,000 MW. Extremely high
additions were installed in the US (over 8,000 MW), and China (more than 6,000 MW).
