German RE & EE initiatives for Egypt
Higher education
In August 2009, the bi-cultural Master' s Programme "Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency for the MENA Region (REMENA)”, organized by the University of Kassel and Cairo University in Egypt, will be launched. The programme is aimed at young professionals from Germany, Egypt and other Arab countries who already hold a first university degree and includes study phases both in Egypt and in Germany. The program is jointly funded by the German Federal Ministry for Ecomomic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), administered by DAAD.
R&D cooperation
With focus on RE and EE, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Arab Republic of Egypt (MHESR) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) have agreed to funding of joint innovative projects in the field of applied research through the 'Egyptian-German Research Fund' ("Deutsch-Aegyptischer Forschungsfonds") as a follow-up to the 'German-Egyptian Year of Science and Technology 2007
Business cooperation
The German Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce is providing numerous services to business among which matchmaking between businesses is prominent. Renewable Energy and energy efficiency are issues high on the agenda.
Supported from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, the initaitive to export RE technology carries out activities for and with Egypt.
Similarly, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs supports the Initiative Energy Efficiency - Made in Germany, which is planning activities for Egypt.
Climate protection iniitiaves
With funds from the auctioning emission rights, the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU) supports globally projects for climate change mitigation and adaptation. Egypt is eligible for project sfrom the Cllimate Protection Initiative.
Egypt as part of MENA is also one of the focus countries for the JIKO Initiative of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU)

The International Energy Agency (IEA) provides energy consumption data for Egypt in intrernational comparable format.
The World Energy Council (WEC) has conducted a study on energy efficiency including indicators and data on Egypt for 2005.
The global Renewable Energy Policy Network REN21 provides annual overviews and studies on global RE status and prospects.
